Ultimate Scaled Resolution in Retina MacBook Pro

i have had 2.7/16/768 1 day , can't stop gushing how amazing is. have more technical question though. feel suggested "best" setting retina little small needs. came 17" hi res screen got little used real estate. have played around upper 2 settings called more space. love 1680x1050 , 1900x1200 fear getting performance hit. though don't feel performance hit in these scaled settings. tell me giving in terms of performance or if have experienced first hand slowing characteristics results. guess trying understand downside of using scaled resolutions. 1680 feels perfect me. should steer clear?

thanks,
nomad
