Quake running at 1 frame/sec

ok, not original quake, tenebraequake , darkplaces high-res models plus enhanced lighting.

it's stupid, though. may have upgraded lighting, better textures... pale in comparison quake 4 or doom 3 - yet every tie there's scene lot of flares or coronas/fancy lighting, fps drops single digits.

why?

blame poor/quick coding. aren't remotely optimised ppc macs. compare coreplayer, plays 6mbit+ 1080 h264 video files fine. yet slows less 1 frame/sec in lighting-intense enhanced-quake scenes, , 2 seconds later jumps 250 frames/sec when there aren't fancy explosions/lighting effects being rendered. yet gpu can handle , far beyond without breaking sweat, therefore must blame quick , cheap coding.

yeah, ppc "dead" platform, really, whatever happened programmers taking pride in work? hell, corepayer hasn't been updated in half decade, yet technically refined, efficient, , bang-for-buck piece of code i've ever used. seriously. uses half cpu power of vlc - , performs better.

<3 g5.

also - system far low end - maxed out ram, dual 1.8 g5 cpus, , ati fire gl x3 scores higher in openmark other ppc mac on macrumors :)

what trying say?
