What's broken, my 2012 MBA or Apple's USB 3.0 driver?

so got brand new 2012 11" mba 2.0 ghz core i7, 8gb ram, 256 gb ssd. when attaching external hdd noticed i usb 3 connection when plug disk directly 1 of mba's usb ports. connect disk mba through usb 3 hub disk drops usb 2.

• i've used 2 different usb 3 hubs. behavior same both.

• i've used quality usb 3 cables hubs , disks. no usb2-only cables involved.

• hubs connected other usb 2 peripherals mba. removing usb 2 stuff didn't change anything.

• hdd using 3.5" wd 1 tb disk installed in usb 3 sata dock. changed usb 3 sata dock different manufacturer, behavior same. no improvement.

•i checked usb 3 vs. usb 2 using apple system profiler, not measuring transfer rates. although rates saw consistent reported protocol (~ 30 mb/s via usb 2, ~ 80 mb/s via usb 3 limited hdd and/or sata-usb dock).

• behavior same on both usb ports of mba.

so, can tell me what's wrong here? mba's usb toast or kind of weird thing in apple's usb 3 driver? understanding usb 3 hub should ensure usb 3 speeds attached devices (as long host supports usb 3 obviously). i've never heard usb 3 speeds devices attached directly host.

in advance insight , advice. :)

you should around 90% of performance when using hub opposed direct connection. out of interest, hubs used? please include exact model numbers.
