ok, did x5355 mod mp1,1
updated firmware - all's well....
i'm using right on 46" 1080p ! ! ! ! !

config:

mp1,1 2,1 firmware
x5355's (2 x 2.66 ghz quads)
16gb (8x2gb) kingston 667 ecc fb w/heatsinks
os 10.6.8 - updated (and old 10.5.8 drive ppc selectable @ boot)
system drive crap 250gb maxtor still
7300gt vid - apple 5770 tho

have ocz agility 3 sataiii 6, haven't installed 2 reasons
1) need bracket - guys using?????
2) don't have snow leopard installer

there way make installer out of current installation????

have installer present snow leopard, i'm gonna go buy lion, , software updated , installed...
want sure can go sl if needed,
, - there way make installer out of purchase of lion via apple store?
seems *****ty in event of drive failure i'd screwed

have 2 owc 240 ssds in raid 0. tie 2 unused sata ports on motherboard.

time machine backup easiest way roll install.

yes, can make installer out of lion app download. google friend.

have seen lot of people geekbench scores don't increase because of ssds. experience has been different. still running 5150's (i'll doing 5355 swap next month:d). went on 4500 6257. ymmv.

far monitoring software, run istat.

RAID in Early 2009 Mac Pro

being "tech guy" of house, brother has requested upgrade 4,1 mac pro. has: 2 x 2.26 quad-core xenons 12 gb ram 3 x geforce gt 120 4 x 2 tb hdd's in software raid 10 80 gb ssd in 1 of optical bays boot disk. uses computer video editing, in final cut pro x, he'll dabble in adobe suite. said wants more speed , needs less storage; i.e., doesn't need main drive more 2 tb. budget not issue here, future-proofing is: don't want have upgrade long time. ram upgrade simple enough, right? head on owc , grab 24 or 32 gb of whatever goes 4,1 generation mac pro. video cards know next nothing about. don't quite understand why he's got 3 of them for; monitor 30 in. cinema display. should upgrade video card(s)? maybe raedon 5770 or 5870? feel video editing isn't gpu-intensive, if is, please tell me so. now, fun part storage. figure best solution 4 new ssd's replace 12 tb ones, , stick ssds in raid 0. question is: n...
