well, it's this. have powerbook g4 1 gb in ram. checked memory in mac , got this:

so, purchased stick (1 gb) , when install new stick found lower slot wasn't empty, had stick of ram in it.

these 2 sat making 1 gb of ram, showing 1 in about-section. how come?

tried make use of newly bought ram , thought "1,5 gb better 1 gb..." lower slot still claim it's empty , therefore "about mac" tells me i'm down 512 mb of ram. i'm confused!

these 2 should make 1.5gb. upper stick (with bga chips) 1gb, lower (with tsop chips) 512mb. seems pb has infamous "dead lower slot issue".

put stick in lower slot , try boot. if won't boot, have answer. can try reset pram , pmu, won't hurt if wont ;)
