iMac restart possible while simultaneously streaming to AppleTV

well, color me impressed! streaming movie itunes library apple tv (3rd generation). had been controlling appletv iphone , connected movie library, resides on external hard drive connected imac.

had simultaneously been letting disk utility verify hard disk , decided after utility completed reboot imac. knowing streaming movie apple tv, expected movie cut out on me during restart. however, bit surprised see although computer went through restart, movie continued stream apple tv.

tested again sure happened occurred , got same results. believe reason why working because activated stream iphone vs. computer itself. in fact, shut down itunes on imac i'm typing , movie continues play.

either movie has streamed enough of buffer continue play without need itunes continue running, or there other things @ play have not yet figured out.

going try stream movie directly imac vs. controlling collection iphone , report results in follow-up post.

these movies have ripped own dvd collection using handbrake. not movies purchased apple.

ok...did bit more testing. when directly playing movie imac apple tv, reboot disconnect movie streaming (as expected). however, have proven again if start movie controlling itunes movie collection iphone (using remote), long itunes running when appletv first connects itunes collection, can start movie , go computer , turn off itunes , movie continue run. until today had thought requirement keep itunes running in background under circumstance allow movie streamed apple tv.

once itunes shut down, not able go select (for example) movie, 1 watching seems continue run without need itunes running...which why allowed me reboot computer , still allow movie play.

anyway, found interesting. ymmv i'm still pretty impressed.

may try start movie using iphone tap itunes movie collection, shut down computer extended period of time see how long movie continues play. have feeling movie stop playing before ends may wrong. we'll see later.
