Considering used MacPro

hello.
looking option of buying used mac pro. video editor , i've been able of work on c2d mbpro , similar machine - felt use more juice, hd content , rendering times.

professionally video editor , use avid workstations @ work, little freelancing stuff i've been able work way do. intrigued mac pro, haven't had desktop machine in on 4 years , have 24" 1920x1200 display (fujitsu-siemens p24 scenic view), use firewire dv camcorder , external usb drives.

interested in making "budget" machine oem parts. it'd cool 128gb ssd , have 2x1tb regular drives in raid, internal hdd timemachine , max out ram possible.

but

not have experience , don't have estimate on processing power of processors used in mac pro. i'm not sure on price.
i'd hate mac pro , find out processor-wise i'm on same level i5's in current mb pro's.

example have stumbled upon used 2010 mac pro nehalem w3520 2,66 quad-core processor , 6gb of ram, ati radeon hd5770 1gb graphics + 2tb drive (could repurpose 1 timemachine backups).

seller selling @ $1700 , test machine personally. sound reasonable?

need @ estimating value - processing power. worth, example getting 2009 (or 2008) pro , maxing out or 2010 pro's superior?

thank suggestions.

w3520= 2009 machine. have upgraded parts, 2010 used w3530. both used same logic board. firmware updated in 2010.
