hi everyone, i'm purchasing 256gb crucial m4 next week replace crappy 5400rpm hdd, , i'm thinking on installation steps:
- replace old hdd brand new crucial m4.
- put old hdd in external enclosure, , connect mbp via usb.
- boot mbp old hdd via usb.
- copy old hdd brand new crucial m4 via carbon copy cloner.
- put seat belt on , enjoy!
procedure ok or there wrong? ccc process work ok, taking account it's running external hdd via usb?
i'm not considering clean installation, recommend (i'm lazy).
thank in advance , sorry english.
the path i'd follow (and have mbp):
boot dvd or other external , ensure hdd cleaned using disk utility (backup first).
put ssd in external enclosure
format ssd desired , use carbon copy clone existing hdd ssd
swap drives (ssd internal , hdd external) , verify proper operation. wipe hdd , use new task (could kept backup bootable drive if ssd issues - did).
has been on year running ssd in mine using both osx (sl , lion) win 7 bootcamp install too. no issues other runs , fast.
