System running slow, not sure where to look next

i should preface saying have quite bit of experience in troubleshooting apple computers, somehow i'm @ loss on own computer. operations running extremely slow, involving disk access. notice when browsing folders in finder, or in open/save dialog boxes. i'd think drive beginning fail, has been going on long time, , i'm getting around asking forum help. i've run diskwarrior, i've done reinstalls , clean installs, i've repaired permissions hundred times, , nothing seems have affect. i'm pretty sure wasn't when first got drive, though.

specs reference:
macbook pro 13" 2011
2.3 ghz intel core i5
8 gb 1333 mhz ddr3
intel hd graphics 3000 512 mb
mac os x lion 10.7.4 (11e53)
500gb wd5000bevt hard drive (36.5gb free currently, 75-100gb free)

ggjstudios, i've run through every single step in tutorial post in these threads, helpful parts of this, didn't solve issue mentioned above.
