Death: Would be funny, if it weren't so sad.

i'm going take advantage of (relative) anonymity of internets share (vent) tragic/ironic/infuriating/funny situation i've been involved with.

last friday, got call friend of mine's mother, let me know son's girlfriend had been taken hospital, , had undergone emergency brain surgery.

transpired, poor woman, 49 years old, had suffered massive aneurism. hospital staff did could, monday pretty clear lady brain dead, , thursday of week, they'd removing life support (ie. respirator) , suffer clinical death shortly thereafter.

"bill" (names altered) has been friend of mine more thirty years. he'd been dating "debbie" eight, since shortly after divorce first wife finalized.

many couples they'd had ups , downs. lot of them seemingly centered on lady's daughter ("kelly") who, various reasons, didn't care friend "bill." i'd remarked mutual friend, "bill" had room 1 child in relationships, , it.

"bill" isn't dealing situation. on 1 hand, seems getting far involved in woman's affairs. seems not understand has no legal standing in proceedings whatsoever; , managing alienate of "debby's" relatives (mother, daughter, sister) - dint of selfishness , bad temper - he'd forfeited moral right too.

on other hand, personal behavior on past few days has struck me as, well, odd. upon being informed girlfriend had been taken hospital in critical condition, decided work out rest of shift - @ part-time retail job. granted - couldn't have done @ hospital. if important person in life literally fighting hers few blocks away - think tear myself away selling xxxx couple of hours there her.

ought mention in 4 days since "debby" taken hospital, "bill" has managed find time go no less 4 major league baseball games. on 1 hand, 1 such distractions might not bad thing @ time of personal tragedy. on other, reminded mother called me - best friend - ask available spend time son in time of need. naturally, i've been more willing so. can't somehow totally reconcile being told "bill" he's "too busy" see me , other friends right now.

prediction: 6 months now, "bill" might need personal friends has. he's self-involved , short-sighted, nothing of being such poor manager of other human beings, see how might have exhausted whatever stock of goodwill among friends.

crowning achievement came evening. "bill" called me tell me he'd "offered" go "debby's" house after death, mother , sister empty out personal possessions. "bill" told me there items wanted "as keepsakes" - , "debby's" mother 76 years old, in physical condition her.

let me put couple of things in perspective: "bill" last person in world want such task. he's disorganized; aggressive; insensitive; , frankly incompetent @ physical tasks. i've seen him scream @ mother moving old newspapers in house. thought of him imposing himself such family tragedy frankly sickens me. mentioned had interest in "debby's" dishwasher. "bill" has - past seven years - not found energy or time repair peeling wallpaper makes kitchen found in crack den. how thinks he's going have built necessary cabinetry, plumbing, , electrical work install second-hand dishwasher totally beyond me. @ best plundered dishwasher going join rest of junk makes house episode of "hoarders."

go on: how disgusted crude boasting sexual appeal (imho imaginary) fifty-something divorcees met @ parents florida home. exploitation of tragedy call former wife (a woman who's done short of restraining order let him know not bother her.)

death "debby's" real tragedy. woman daughter left orphaned. mother , sister left bury woman died far before time. opportunity stand up, , real man. show concern other people. put needs of others, might suffering more first.

bad friend "bill" being such jerk. feel nothing guilt , shame merely association.

 

i bet scoundrel bill secretly poisoned debby or harmed in way because debby cheating on bill because he's such slob. bill somehow involved in because flirting divorcees , attending sporting events!

still, maybe debby isn't dead. perhaps debby realized bill's plan harm her, distracted bill , replaced herself secret twin debbie. debby return , seek vengeance on bill. better careful.

oh god realized else... if bill killed debby/debbie debby's mother? think this: seventy-six year old woman, shocked death of daughter debby/debbie, left vulnerable bill's masculine charms , trapped in house alone him...
