is mybook formatted mac os extended (journaled)? if not, use disk utility format it, , possibly partition drive if mbr , not guid , try using time machine.

boot.efi error, sounds have windows in way on mac. using vmware, parallels, boot camp? if 1 of virtual machine methods, have tried excluding image? if using boot camp, using macfuse or ntfs-3g allow writing of files across both partitions? if so, try disabling before trying backup again.
