so, i've ditched old mac pro , macbook air new rmbp - i'm little stuck on storage issues, appreciate anybody's insight.
aperture library 245gb currently, , expanding. won't fit on rmbp's 256gb ssd, , if had bought 512gb model end full. such, put library on 1.5tb usb2 external...and watched aperture crash , burn. performance okay, imports take forever due lovely beachball of processing new imports - talking 30mins on 150 images.
such, need faster external solution, don't know best aperture?
1) usb3 drive, 1-2tb
2) promise raid thunderbolt, 4tb
3) thunderbolt drive, 1-2tb
aperture need speed promise raid provides? noticeably faster operating off standard 1-2tb usb3 or tb drive? else using promise in way aperture libraries?
usb 2 ! promise raid have best performance, it's more need , absolutely not portable.
if can afford 512 gb ssd, put external usb 3 (good, cheaper) or thunderbolt enclosure (best, more expensive). wouldn't bother mechanical hard drive. other advantage of ssd versus hdd it's light , sturdy, can take anywhere you.
can splitting aperture library... need photos in 1 big project ? smaller projects make aperture more reactive.
ps can find crucial m4 512gb sataiii ssd on amazon $400 now... attractive price !
