Screen problem with my Ipad I: Replacement options?

i turned on ipad (original model, 3g 32 gig, purchased may 2010) , part of screen dark , or filled lines. no physical damage ipad or glass.
seems replacement options 3rd party repair around $150.
or send/take apple store charge $249 replacement:

sense if ...
a)... price of replacement might have gone down price has dropped on ipad 2.
b) ...there's chance replace ipad 1 equivalent ipad 2.
c) ...if there's cheaper replacement option through apple, perhaps under $99 battery exchange program. (the ipad has been used heavily not me, i've got no sense of how battery shot.)

(no, don't have apple care , if did expired now.)

ATV3 5.1 channel ?

no service after redsnow jailbreaking
