i purchased seagate backup plus w/ usb 3.0 desktop adapter new 2012 11" mba. having issues detecting drive mba. drive spins neither finder nor disk utilities can see it. if plug drive windows pc can detect it. tech support @ seagate said should operational evidenced windows being able detect drive.
decided try plugging in few more times , mac recognized drive. formatted , backed system via time machine. next time booted drive once again missing. unplugged usb 3.0 cable drive several times , reattached , detected drive. has found solution this, because playing around w/ cable , hoping best not seem sound solution.
have read on seagate forums issue exists, there little support , no solution. far why chose device, hoping upgrade thunderbolt sometime in future, , had read reviews wd books had poor build quality. however, my passport amazing , making me reconsider. in advance!
i read review on bestbuy's site best solution mac user find buy firewire adaptor of course won't work mba, @ least until apple ships thunderbolt/firewire adaptor in july.
don't have preference wd or seagate, i've had 1 of each fail out of 20+ drives. both put bloatware utilities on drives.
fact many of these manufacturers has been reducing warranties 1 year means have less confidence in quality of drives , don't want financial burden of replacing faulty drives after minimal legally allowed warranty.
