Is This a Budget SSD Solution or a Waste of Time/Money?

today discovered there third-party ssd's cheaper, , smaller apple's. found out decrease boot time in addition file transfer time. need make sure of - can os installed on external drive , booted if leave plugged in time? or startup have inside computer?

also, thinking of cheap 30gb or transfer photos each individual project while i'm working on reap speed @ moment, archive 1tb hd. can wait night store them want benefit @ time want work on them , doesn't drain battery of camera initial backup. make sense , worth in neighborhood of $50-80?
 

you can boot external drive, unless thunderbolt enclosure, won't see improvement in speed. , time, might have bought bigger ssd , installed internally.

fw800 fast 7200 rpm drive, usb3 bit faster that.
usb2 1/3 speed of fw800.
