WD HDD appearing as a wiped disk?

i purchased 'western digital book essential 2tb'(desktop) external hard drive (with usb 3). hooked up, installed software good.

has conflicted other 'western digital elements 750gb'(portable) external hard drive.
think updating 'wd smartware' had it.

upon completion of updating software 750gb drive appear 'local disk (i:)'.
windows ask me format it, of course said no didn't want cause damage.

have attached images showing scenario.
newly purchased drive 1 on bottom left, , ruined drive far right.

second image shows drive appears have no data on it, nor have capability hold any. strange how hour ago had filled 700gb of files.

should do? recovery software recommend? advice? appreciated!

attached files:

it doesn't strike odd disk reports 0 bytes used , 0 bytes free?

sounds disk needs repartitioned, reformatted zeros, burn in tests , see if remains reliable.

aren't thinking ok trust hard drive, let alone new one, let alone 1 without burn in testing, sole copy of important data.
