[HELP] iMac keeps freezing, sound looping and I am forced to reboot

it's mid 27" i5 imac

on screen stays same, , sound loops , plays last few seconds. warranty expired , there's no applestores in province live in. i'm @ wits end , i'm horrified mac broken.

did put 2gb stick of ram machine other week *might* of been around when these errors started, it? there way check without having open bottom of mac again?

p.s. every time hold power button , restart mac after locks this, notice spotlight "indexing" again.

yes, memory problem. surest way tell remove memory added , see if problem goes away. i've read memory should added in factory matched pairs. if added single stick, issue.

might try running apple hardware tests
