Thinking of getting a Mac Book Pro Retina - Coming from Windows.

new here. apologize if of question seem repetitive. coming using windows life. although did use old macs in middle school program simple games using microworld, if remembers application. anyway, thinking of buying mac book retina school. molecular , bio-informatics research , looking @ large sequences or doing 3d protein modeling. data sets in range of 7 15 gb @ time. mentor (professor) recommended looking , consider buying new mac book pro retina display me better aid research needs.

current laptop's resolution 1650x1050 4 years old: windows 7 pro intel core 2 duo p8400(2.26ghz) 15.4", wide xga 4gb memory 250gb hdd (with 30 gbs free) 5400rpm dvd super multi nvidia geforce 9600m gs...

it'll nice applications use mac only. while of them old , not supported apple (ie. can run in snow leopard or older). wondering finagling able run on latest apple os version?

, all. problem use tools windows centric, dependent on dos. runs in background of real windows gui. if buy mbpr, able run dos applications run fine on home windows 7 desktop.

aside this, main question, able install windows 7 pro 64 bit on laptop windows 8 upgrade dvd through apple super drive. if possible have parallel , bootcamp. how right click work on apple running bootcamp or parallel. considering buying following:

mbpr with
2.6ghz quad-core intel core i7, turbo boost 3.6ghz
16gb 1600mhz ddr3l sdram
768gb flash storage
apple usb superdrive
applecare protection plan macbook pro
apple thunderbolt gigabit ethernet adapter
mini displayport vga adapter

it'll 400 dollars.

windows 7 on desktop = windows 7 on mbpr via bootcamp. difference going performance related.
i doubt it. it's possible windows 7 upgrade disks. external optical drive work, apple superdrive not explicitly required.

under parallels. bootcamp, i'd highly recommend two-button mouse.
$400 total? must living in 2020.

replace "apple usb superdrive" brand's external slim odds e.g. asus , samsung. lot cheaper.

buy mini-dp vga adapter monoprice, lot cheaper apple.

if can live externally attached storage, might not need 768gb option.

being "tech guy" of house, brother has requested upgrade 4,1 mac pro. has: 2 x 2.26 quad-core xenons 12 gb ram 3 x geforce gt 120 4 x 2 tb hdd's in software raid 10 80 gb ssd in 1 of optical bays boot disk. uses computer video editing, in final cut pro x, he'll dabble in adobe suite. said wants more speed , needs less storage; i.e., doesn't need main drive more 2 tb. budget not issue here, future-proofing is: don't want have upgrade long time. ram upgrade simple enough, right? head on owc , grab 24 or 32 gb of whatever goes 4,1 generation mac pro. video cards know next nothing about. don't quite understand why he's got 3 of them for; monitor 30 in. cinema display. should upgrade video card(s)? maybe raedon 5770 or 5870? feel video editing isn't gpu-intensive, if is, please tell me so. now, fun part storage. figure best solution 4 new ssd's replace 12 tb ones, , stick ssds in raid 0. question is: n...
