Old iMac to new TV

hey everyone,

first off, wasn't sure whether place here, or on @ 'peripherals' section, since it's more of imac related issue, put here.

now, bought brand new plasma tv, , idea hook imac play games , browse web on 51". problem it's pretty old one, it's ma710zh/a 2006. since has mini-dvi port, figured i'd buy adapters , work. bought mini-dvi-to-vga, , vga-to-scart because told dvi-to-hdmi wouldn't work, , vga-to-hdmi wasn't available. when came home , hooked up, mac's screen relolution popped 800x600 something, , port on tv read 'no connection'. need type of resolution converter, or set-up old function? know made mini-dvi-to-video adapters, told discontinued.

thanks!

more details imac required if give full assesment, ie. model(21.5", 27"), year (2010,2011) etc.
apple don't allow of models output , input information critical.
