Western Digital MyBook-Unable to turn on, light not working

i have 2 1tb book studio editions hooked mac pro through 2 firewire 800 ports. problem i'm experiencing couple weeks ago 1 of them stopped working. mac pro won't recognize , light won't come on. feel hard drive spinning inside though. questioned if had switch , if needed turn on light work.


have 2 of these drives went 2nd drive , pressed switch few seconds , turned off. pressed few more seconds expecting turn on won't both drives aren't working.

cause spin when plugged in not have light come on or have computer recognize it? there trick switch causing me not able turn on second drive?


using these drives time machine drives 2 laptops have connected through wifi network mac pro. had 2 wd 750gb drives. both of them became defective during warranty , wd replaced both these 1tb drives. unfortunately these out of warranty. on time i've found them unreliable @ times. have either unplug , plug in again, unplug firewire 800 , plug in again, etc. , work.

on side note, know these hard drives , others have 2 fw800 ports daisy chaining. i've connected both drives directly via 2 cables couple fw800 ports on mac pro know can used daisy chain use 1 fw800 port on mac pro. if in future, cause decrease in performance or drives run fast?

if laptops have firewire 800 ports them plug drives them see if maybe ports on mac pro may bad. if still not work try new cables. if still not work take enclosure apart , try drives directly pro drive sleds adapter enclosure bad
