What is the point of a screensaver, when the screen should just be off when not used?

ugh, annoying trend no 1 seems have bucked yet, talking public use of screen savers.

when walking sam's club, got these brand new cash registers (pos systems), have touch screens facing cashier, , customer. fine , dandy , all, unless check stand closed....then sits there wasting electricity bouncing around sam's club logo on screen on both cashier monitor customer facing monitor....you know, in case either employee or customer forgets he/she @ guess :roll eyes:

local grocery store decides monitor great place roll ads when check stand isn't being used....more clever store logo, last time checked, not many people pay attention closed register anyway ad anyone's attention.

while @ len's crafters, monitors computer flashing "windows xp professional" screensaver.who cares os len's crafters decides use, there glasses, not os shopping.

props apple enabling sleep mode on monitor default!

now, understand when monitor have on, such atm, or self checkout machine designed greet user...that great. aforementioned systems, wouldn't better off showing nothing while system isn't being used? (i.e, sleep mode?) isn't going take long when cashier has log in system @ sam's, or when need information on pair of glasses @ lens crafters...just because monitor has wake up.

mostly employees don't have worry computer/pos working or not. there, ready used. and, power "waste" negligible. on portable, makes sense, desktop, not important.
