Is the "2012" Mac Pro worth it for me?

guys, next month 2007 macbook pro turns 5. it's been great machine introduced me world of osx.

it's given me minimal problems on years , new hdd , ram has kept feeling fresh. however, struggles keep needs, it's time relegate being secondary machine , buy new.

(you can skip next paragraph)

have admit new retina macbook pro has tempted me. gorgeous screen , thin profile caught eye, , specs aren't bad either. thinking practical purposes regular macbook pro better. it's powerful, more flexible should decide on years need more memory. because i'll using on desktop 27" external monitor portability of rmbp necessary?

(continue here)

realised i'm being foolish. want, i've wanted...is mac pro.

can tell, it's practical option.
1) don't need portable machine i'm working @ desk.
2) it's more capable of supporting current needs.
3) it's surprisingly under budget (a hexacore cost less planning on putting aside rmbp)
4) have great monitor use.
5) don't use/need thunderbolt internal bd drive, secondary hdd, second graphics card...

should mention i'm not professional means. mean, i'm not casual user , need grunt. nothing ivy bridge quad-core mbp couldn't handle.

guys think? bad buy? want use machine next 5 years or so...

imo, think current mac pro's bad buy. on 2 years old in term of hardware, , refresh last month doesn't count anything. opted "classic" 15" macbook pro, maxed out ability upgrade 32 gb ram and/or whatever hdd/ssd want , have 2 (256 ssd + 1 tb hdd, 16 gb ram). retina mbp cannot that.

best value of course custom-built windows pc. if os x important you, go classic mbp (imac eh, , mac pro crap right now). if can handle windows, build nice xeon-based 6+ core or core i7-3930k cheaper mac pro.
