Will the DP 4,1 and 5,1 ever become like the 1,1

in terms of cpu upgrades? lets buy dp 4,1 today, 4-5 years down road how pick compatible processors in $200-$300 range , see significant jump in performance? if base 8 core 4,1 upgraded 12 5,1 correct?

laying out longterm purchasing plans while waiting used 4,1s hit craigslist , ebay.
 

the problem 4,1 dp machine way processors held in place.
4,1 designed use cpus don't have integrated heat spreader. cpus used apple , 2mm shorter xeon processors sold else.
if try use cpu ihs, end crushing cpu and/or daughter board when tighten down heat-sink , fan assembly.
don't think we'll ever see flood of cheap cpus direct fits (unless they're other 4,1 macs).

limited nehalem cpus because of 4,1 firmware.

that's not entire story.

there way upgrade 4,1 firmware 5,1. allows use westmere processors.

, if you're brave, can install cpu has ihs. need 2mm washers raise heat-sink in order accommodate height. have modify power cable fans. 2mm lift prevents them making contact daughter board.

5,1 doesn't have of problems mentioned. can find cpu upgrades form newegg.

being "tech guy" of house, brother has requested upgrade 4,1 mac pro. has: 2 x 2.26 quad-core xenons 12 gb ram 3 x geforce gt 120 4 x 2 tb hdd's in software raid 10 80 gb ssd in 1 of optical bays boot disk. uses computer video editing, in final cut pro x, he'll dabble in adobe suite. said wants more speed , needs less storage; i.e., doesn't need main drive more 2 tb. budget not issue here, future-proofing is: don't want have upgrade long time. ram upgrade simple enough, right? head on owc , grab 24 or 32 gb of whatever goes 4,1 generation mac pro. video cards know next nothing about. don't quite understand why he's got 3 of them for; monitor 30 in. cinema display. should upgrade video card(s)? maybe raedon 5770 or 5870? feel video editing isn't gpu-intensive, if is, please tell me so. now, fun part storage. figure best solution 4 new ssd's replace 12 tb ones, , stick ssds in raid 0. question is: n...
