Please help me

i bought white 16gb iphone, honest, i'm not sure if it's 3g or 3gs. it's stuck in recovery mode, when plug in usb itunes screen comes up. that's i'm able see. i'm unable put in dfu mode, when try nothing happens. when try restore it get's 75% of way through , stops error (1) message. i'm sure can log if needed. there way of making use of phone or did waste money?

make sure update latest ios version.currently latest version iphone 3gs ios 5.1.1.hope helps.

ATV3 5.1 channel ?

no service after redsnow jailbreaking
