i'm looking new dog, st. bernard.
have 1 doubt, regarding tolerance hot weather. have golden retriever, handles heat ok. have plenty of shades in backyard, small pool , when gets hot, let him in. he's in whenever in house during day.
i'm not sure how st. bernard handle hot weather. live mean temperature 73f, can get, sometimes, hot 107f in days of summer. reaching 95f not rare during summer. in hot days humidity around 30-50%.
here has st. bernard , lives in similar weather?
thanks.
not st. bernard owner personally, neighbors here in mid-atlantic have beautiful one. take on short walks (probably 3-5 day) vs. 2-3 long ones. it's managing exposure. there several huskies in neighborhood it's been 100 degrees+humidity. short walks , lot of water , avoid running hard @ park. dogs adapt temperature, , coats allow them regulate well.
being said, don't leave "cold weather" dog out in heat , don't turn ac off when you're gone, keep below 80. if have tile in home, or lay there keep cool or find ground ac vent dogs , lay on that.
also, please rescue if possible , again, don't leave dogs outside in extreme heat.
