Using my iPod 3G Classic 2003 with Windows 7 64bit?

hello,

found old ipod 3g classic 2003 in cupboard , felt nostalgic , decided see if use again. replaced battery , fell @ first hurdle of trying charge usb cable. won't work, found firewire cable , wall charger, wouldnt charge wall, strange. plugged computer firewire port , began charging.

problem itunes wont detect ipod, im running itunes 10.6. checked device manager , nothing there. removed 10.6 , installed itunes 4.1 didnt know if support had been removed it. still not in itunes hourglass did come briefly in windows when plugged in time, still doesnt show in device manager.

running windows 7 64bit has ever tried old ipod working success?

ideas great,

i had same issue 2g , 3g ipod , itunes 10 on new computer. not recognize either of them. uninstalled itunes, restarted computer, installed itunes 7 under fresh user account no itunes library. updated software on both ipods (the 3g update directly through itunes, 2g had updated ipod update software). once ipods updated newest firmware, reinstalled itunes 10 , recognized both ipods, correct icons ipods , all.
