Preview crashes while trying to crop or cut/copy

recently scanned bunch of old photographs wanted have digital copies of throw them away. save time, scanned 3 @ time , planned crop them later. , giant mistake, apparently.

time try crop selection, application shuts down , box pops says "preview quit unexpectedly" , prompts me send report apple. on , over, never working @ all. tried instead use copy , paste selection done, crashes when that. there's never problem opening , viewing photos, when try edit them.

realize can in iphoto, takes lot longer since there no "save as" option create new file cropped portion while keeping old intact.

know can fix this? or if not, know of free , simple (seriously, need crop, nothing fancy) mac application can use done quickly? thank help. :)

ATV3 5.1 channel ?

no service after redsnow jailbreaking
