How to get Logic Pro to Run better on my MBP?

hi, have 2010 mbp (2.4 ghz intel core i5 8 gb of ram , 7200 rpm hard drive, both aftermarket).

i'm running logic pro 9 , have pretty intense sessions i'm working on, approaching 100 tracks (all multiple plugins). honestly, considering workload, computer has done well, there constant crashes , glitches , recording , mixing these sessions have become impossible. there can improve computer's performance or need bite bullet , new mbp (totally can't afford it)?

thanks.
