Going iPad only -- the other way.

i reading through thread trying have ipad sole machine instead of pc @ home. given simplicity of it, appealing idea, isn't 1 appeals me personally; @ home, space not @ premium degree elsewhere. however, 1 place space @ premium, on person.

that's (part of reason, @ least) why, year ago, tried going phone, , using 3g ipad portable needs, using google voice phone number & text messages, , skype place phone calls. later tried out talkatone, allows place voip calls directly through gv on pc in browser. unfortunately, ui godawful didn't stick it, , went skype voice calls.

neat experience in ways. when in car, make calls through adapter connected aux in port. when walking about, had headphones built-in mic (as opposed holding ipad in front of face time).

as loved ipad, though, realized wasn't wanted keep on person @ times. so, rather maintain same capabilities i'd had @ expense of doing this, started altering behavior , expectations. began leaving ipad in car, , not having phone on me when i'd go places friends. double-edged sword, , 1 didn't hurt me in significant way.

more , more, though, size of ipad began bother me. eventually, sold it, , went using iphone 4, without service contract; rely on wifi , nothing else. again, behavior changer; when driving around , needing resources, i'd pull mcdonald's, starbucks, chick fil-a, etc, free wifi. never crippling, carried risk of being without @ bad time.

few days ago, caved , picked h2o sim, seems ideal balance, now; don't use services on go, have them when need them. , i'm still not blowing $60-100 per month on costly plan don't use often.

i'm still waiting patiently data-only iphone or ipod touch, want. carriers, unfortunately, proving incredibly resistant idea.

has else tried similar?

 

it's nice have choices , data connectivity device helpful change.

dont think our current cell carriers not give anytime soon.
