hey, so.. work photographer , videographer small (but growing) branding firm in manhattan.
we're in desperate need of sort of file storage/backup solution. since we're decently small company , got media production in last year, new no 1 here has dealt before.
employees either backup portable drives or don't backup @ (we have no actual department lecture them). they're fine using portable drives stuff up, our art department has grown 2 videographers, 2 graphic designers, , 1 web developer, , we're producing tons of data, video. i'm talking 25-50 gigs per shoot, on average, , 2-3 shoots per week usually. downloading cards takes enough space without mentioning duplicating (i've got stack of 6 1-2tb hard drives sitting beside imac, has 2tb of internal space filled).
, since don't have person , no 1 in office tech-savvy, kind of falls me, since team has need it.
need sort of massive storage solution-- somewhere can dump cards after shoot, organize them (renaming, keywording, filing them in sort of structure) , them up. besides onsite backup, it'd have online backup system, too.
whatever drive files stored on needs have fast enough interface can either edit video directly or download dozen gigs quickly. also, if accessed offsite machine (so can work home), that'd great.
of in art department have new imacs thunderbolt capability, standards-- usb 2, firewire 800, , ethernet.
think we'd need start 20tb @ least, , it'd great expandable. our company growing fast, we'll producing more , more media @ faster rate.
server need accessible art department, if there way have accessible rest of 40 or employees, helpful, too.
sooooooo... can describe our needs, have no idea should or if there company or can call come , set us.. or should tell such company.
money sort of not object. meaning there money this, said, 1 of few here appreciate need , how cost initially. i'm expecting @ least few several thousand dollars. 10k or less, though..
ideas? thanks!
ever since demise of xraid product, have need go dell or hp or similar company large storage solutions.

remember think off-site backups (e.g., rotating tape backups picked on daily basis service). natural or religious disasters must accounted for. keeping data off-site way sure you're protected.
