Best format to import into iMovie 11

hi all

i've looked @ number of previous posts on subject not 100% clear understand right answer, forgive me if i'm seeming thick! i'd grateful advice...

have old sony camcorder records onto minidv tapes. can't download these directly onto computer, have stack of minidv tapes send off local photographic shop company convert digital file format use in imovie 11 (which i'm yet use, haven't yet got converted files work with, hence post).

when took tapes in last week send away, bloke in shop said needed specify on envelope precisely video format wanted tapes converted to, said, "ah - have no idea!" , came out of shop research answer.

forum posts i've read seem suggest either dv or mpeg-4 best, either possible minidv? read dv files pretty or entirely uncompressed, end being huge. receive converted files on cd-rom, presumably should ask mpeg-4 make sure entire 60 minute minidv tape fits onto 1 disc. right?

different file format better?

minidv quality relatively low (compared modern hd camcorders, anyway), i'm scared of losing image definition further.

people think?

kind advice appreciated.

many thanks

simon (in devon, uk)
