edit: after taking macbook in local apple repair specialists, found there issue logic board, low voltage in area. they've ordered replacement logic board, , macbook should me within next week.
hi all,
i've had retina macbook pro (stock high-end model, 512gb ssd , 8gb ram) on week now, , have noticed strange performance issues dedicated gpu performing, in both mac os x , windows under bootcamp, worse think should reasonably performing. therefore wondering whether there might issue 650m gpu, , if so, it.
first example cinebench on os x, although windows 1 fps off. i've read scores of around 40fps others 650m in computer, when run cinebench's opengl test, score 14fps consistently. know isn't cpu issue, benchmark in line others have reported. set alarm bells ringing when tried re-run benchmark integrated gpu forced through gfxcardstatus got score of 22fps in other words, integrated gpu registering more powerful dedicated gpu. comparison, imac (late '07, c2d 2.4ghz, radeon hd 2600m pro) scores 13fps. i've tried cinebench on windows same result 14fps.
i've run gaming tests. both imac , rmbp running beginning of half-life 2: episode 1 on identical settings (1680x1050, medium-high, vsync , aa off), rmbp consistently gets 1 or 2 fps higher, ranging between 20 40fps hardly you'd expect computer 4 years newer. other, more demanding games on windows have shown performance under i'd expect although crysis 1 defaults high settings on machine, need turn down 800x600 30fps consistently. mass effect 1 works settings on medium-low @ 1280x800, never reaches 60fps consistently.
strangely, performance consistent in games regardless of settings (excluding resolution); in episode 1, on both os x , windows, can switch between lowest , highest settings (including 8xmsaa) , delta in framerate of no more around 8fps.
i'm not quite sure try next, apart more comparisons. if take in local apple maintenance store (yoobee, there no apple stores in new zealand) difficult prove amiss, computer functions without artifacting on both cards. i'd rather not lose computer few weeks if fix myself. if has experienced similar numbers or run comparison please let me know.
