iMac and Diskwarrior problems

my first time here gentle, please.

i've got 2010 imac , developed grey death screen week or ago. disk utility (from install disk) can't repair , suggests backing up. bought external hard drive (of course hadn't done before) won't fully. don't want reinstall os haven't got full up. before taking out hard drive , sending off expensive data recovery thought i'd try diskwarrior things reported it.

diskwarrior 4.4 arrives today amazon won't boot: after few seconds of grey screen dvd ejects. quick research shows there appear compatibility issues diskwarrior , later imacs (not made clear on amazon of course).

install disc snow leopard, v 10.6.3, though think imac os later this.

questions these:

1. reports incompatibility diskwarrior correct?

2. if so, there way force diskwarrior boot internal dvd drive?

3. if not, there seems suggestions out there can save install disc external drive (a wd book), boot external drive , (presumably internal drive) run diskwarrior. case?

4. if so, how save install disk external drive? (i have macbook hand) , having done that, how force boot external? (i using non-mac usb keyboard wireless mac keyboard not connecting). alternatively, copy diskwarrior dvd external drive (using macbook), boot install in imac internal drive , run diskwarrior external? again, if so, steps doing this?

apologies length of post real beginner @ stuff.

thank you.

no replies yet, way of update else experiencing sort of problem:

1. alsoft technical not helpful.

2. got dw run , check/repair follows:

- partition external drive
- restore diskwarrior start intel mac (or similar designation) dw dvd running in macbook partition on external
- restore diskwarriordvd dw dvd partition on external (not sure if strictly necessary)
- boot imac using external drive , option on start up, selecting diskwarrior start drive partition when offered (i used alt key on usb kboard)
- run dw instructed.

in case, directories , files recovered reported disk malfunction couldn't repair , reinstate drive completely. however, dw has allowed me copy saved files partition on external (effectively up) mac disk utility wouldn't do. so, despite hassle, worthwhile process.

incidentally, dw not run on internal dvd drive after booted imac using mac os x install dvd saved onto partition on external drive.
