Thinking about the 2GB Ram Option

i'm still rocking blackbook 2006, looking upgrade mba 13", either 2011 or 2012. have 40gb free on current computer, has 160gb hdd, i'm thinking 128 isn't going enough me given i've read on board.

i'm not power user , use web, e-mail, powerpoint, etc. bh photo has 2011 mba 256gb , 2gb ram on sale free applecare $949... that's pretty cheap considering 2012 version 1599, has 4 gb ram.

since think need 256gb, not 128, 2gb vs. 4gb going huge difference? there reason whatsoever should 2012 vs. 2011 if i'm using basic functions , travel computing?

it may not make significant difference you, if @ all. more ram, since can't upgrade later , don't know if needs change in future. also, having more ram may increase resale value, should decide sell @ point in future.

determine if can benefit more ram, launch activity monitor , click system memory tab @ bottom check page outs. page outs cumulative since last restart, best way check restart computer , track page outs under normal workload (the apps, browser pages , documents have open). if page outs significant (say 1gb or more) under normal use, may benefit more ram. if page outs 0 or low during normal use, won't see performance improvement adding ram.
