Got SSD...now what?

ok, well, don't have ssd yet, it's literally "in mail". it's crucial m4 512gb unit. mbp 2011 13" 2.3ghz i-5 (upgraded 8gb ram). when drive, do far regarding transition old hd sdd? not worried physical transfer...but, need make transition seamless possible? how transfer data old drive new drive? first install os (lion) on new drive first...and "restore" last backup performed? of restore last backup new using transfer cable before ever install laptop?

there type of special backup procedure make sure new drive behaves old drive (only faster hope). make "clone" image of old drive? if so, how do that...the backup have been doing using backup program comes laptop.

anyway, sure can physical swap...but not sure prepare new drive , how old drive's data , functionality new drive best way possible. in advance.
 

a simple method put new drive in external enclosure, use carbon copy cloner make bootable clone of internal external, swap drives , boot up. old drive useful external drive backups or additional storage.

RAID in Early 2009 Mac Pro

being "tech guy" of house, brother has requested upgrade 4,1 mac pro. has: 2 x 2.26 quad-core xenons 12 gb ram 3 x geforce gt 120 4 x 2 tb hdd's in software raid 10 80 gb ssd in 1 of optical bays boot disk. uses computer video editing, in final cut pro x, he'll dabble in adobe suite. said wants more speed , needs less storage; i.e., doesn't need main drive more 2 tb. budget not issue here, future-proofing is: don't want have upgrade long time. ram upgrade simple enough, right? head on owc , grab 24 or 32 gb of whatever goes 4,1 generation mac pro. video cards know next nothing about. don't quite understand why he's got 3 of them for; monitor 30 in. cinema display. should upgrade video card(s)? maybe raedon 5770 or 5870? feel video editing isn't gpu-intensive, if is, please tell me so. now, fun part storage. figure best solution 4 new ssd's replace 12 tb ones, , stick ssds in raid 0. question is: n...
