Sleep mode or hibernation?

i know difference of hibernation , sleep mode on mac os x. use macbook pro.

1 makes mac turn off electricity mac circuits along keeping image of current state of osx environment?
friend of mine told me sleep mode not use, because electricity present inside computer, while hibernation means computer takes image of osx state in hard disk, without keeping power circuits, preferable. friend spoke pc experience in mind, think should not different thing on macs.
there hibernation option in osx? safer/healthier mac use such option?
suppose less hours machine running, better is.

by definition, sleep keeps ram memory alive little voltage, rest of machine powered down. hibernation saves image of ram on hdd. first 1 faster, uses little power (about 1% of battery per hour). second slower (writing to/reading disk), can remove battery.

os x doesn't give option choose hibernation or sleep - dumps ram disk safety, keeps alive little power. if want control it, have use third-party app smartsleep.
