Oh Thunderbolt why art thou?

i trying figure out consumer (not commercial) market looking in terms of peripherals tb port. wife's 2011q4 27" imac has wireless , wired connectivity, usb2.0, etc. , in life, life of consumer, wondered used for.

bought usb3.0 external drives , realized tb port simple tb2usb3 terrific, unfortunately seems apple staying away usb3.

nice wife can tb-based second monitor, commercial grade external storage array, , adapter second physical ethernet port (which doesn't need), along lines of utilizing usb3 transfer benefit remain outside domain of appledom , strictly in domain of 3rd party extortionists in tb accessory boxes offer dvi (wtf?), usb2x2, ethernet (again, not needed) , 1 lowly usb3 port $250 ransom.

wonder of tb, though intel-x86 windows partners drive better accessory offering. of now, tb disappointment consumers--but imagine win commercial users.

untile thunderbolt adopted pc users expect accessories limited. if intel persuade other system makers adopt potentially lead interesting developments given available bandwidth.
