migration assistant and time machine

hey everyone... i'll handing 13mbp down wife mb went belly up, , i'll grabbing new mbp. have question...

understand, copy on either migration assistant or time machine. i'll prompted in beginning choose 1 or other.

use tm anyway every few weeks, , i'm prepared again in next day or two.

of differences between these 2 techniques?

tm exact copy on new hdd, right?

end result of migration assistant? or doesn't result new machine looking identical old one?

understand migration assistant requires connecting two.

time differences between two? approx 200gb of , that. 1 faster other?

other points consider?

thanks! :)

you'll using migration assistant either way. can migrate tm backup or original mac. if original mb "belly up", how going connect them? could...by removing hard drive , connecting somehow mbp...if mb hd not dead.

results same if tm backup current.

tm not copy over. brings on user's documents, settings , applications not on new mbp...in new user account. account still on mbp.

were/are os versions on mb , mbp?
