iPhone touchscreen not reacting

hey

i'm having problems iphone 3gs in last few days, touchscreen stops reacting. usual pattern can unlock , type in code, thereafter, under dozen movements (taps, swipes, whatever) until sort of freezes , nothing. idea what's going on?

@ same time there 3 other curious things i've noticed going on, no idea if they're relevant thought i'd mention in case:

1) touchscreen related: phone open, see 1 of on-sreen 'buttons' (for example bookmarks icon in safari) light up, way when you've tapped it, except haven't! on own, , followed appropriate action (eg opening bookmarks/history pane).

2) on 2 occasions (that know of) phone showed no service notice when should have coverage (because in places). first time took entire restart going, second time shook out of in few minutes without interference.

3) several days ago, before started noticing touchscreen responsiveness issues, iphone froze completely, open on 1 app (can't recall unfortunately). react nothing, not home button or attempts turn off, until somehow un-froze when got call - @ first not pick because wasn't reacting @ all, once call dropped seems have shaken loose , un-froze.

don't know iphone's innards, don't know if of these phenomena relate each other. welcome @ point, iphone has grown sort of spare brain

touchscreen freezing here too

past two? three? weeks, touchscreen has locked up--tapping on buttons or scrolling nothing. might last 15 seconds, might last 30 seconds. oddly, apps involved native apple (calendar, contacts, phone). far, no freezes on third party apps.

else running this? heck suppose causing it?
