How do I measure Internet Speed and performance?

hi

i'm suffering slow internet speeds. believe problem lies isp, because:

  • my wife's ipad , mbp experiencing same problems @ same time.
  • it's intermittent problem. few minutes in every hour, or hour or 2 every day.
  • as slow internet, we're getting no internet – minutes or hours (just internet; not airport, isp etc).

receive technical support, , i'd complain , maybe ask different isp. know if do, tech support people things like: "define slow" or "maybe you're accessing slow sites" or "are using @ peak time?" or "are using more bandwidth?" (and maybe don't blame them.)

need empirical data argue case. so question is: is there easy way of measuring internet performance on time , automatically recording results? maybe utility download?

ATV3 5.1 channel ?

no service after redsnow jailbreaking
