Elegant Solution for Media Library and Backup

hey guys,

need ideas on external storage , backup.

i'm planning buy macbook air replace aging macbook tiny ssd drive small store lossless music collection , hd movies (currently around 500gb grow on 4-5 years intend use machine; in time, 1-2 tb reasonable guess) i'll need external hd store files.

need backup: i'd frequent backups made of internal ssd drive media library needs protected accidental deletion/drive failure: there's no need incremental backups.

natural solution 2 disks: 1 backup disk (media , internal ssd bigger media alone) , 1 media library want preserve desk space as possible. 2 external hd's, i'm going have lot of cables, power supplies , (potentially) noise , ugliness. it'd nice avoid far possible. there nice enclosure house 2 disks of different sizes? looks iomega ultramax or lacie little big disk great on desk. nas, maybe? stick on big raid disk (including internal time machine backups, small comparison media collection isn't massively inefficient) mirroring? of course, won't save me accidentally deleting media...

cheaper better, upgradable quality , reliability win.

i'm not interested in streaming (yet): listen audio through high quality dac , headphones , watch movies on mac.

one option split itunes library, keeping favorite music/movies on ssd have when you're mobile, remainder on external drive.

how split single itunes library on 2 or more media locations

you 1 drive , partition it, using 1 partition backups , other additional storage. use carbon copy cloner make bootable clone of drive, or can selectively backup folders choose.
