Advice from fellow programmers on Macbook Pro 13 inches
hello folks, need little advice again...
thinking buying me 15" mbp. own dell inspiron 15r , 2.4ghz i5 cpu, 6gb ram , 500gb 5k4rpm hdd. great machine. run windows in linux vm 4gb ram running time programming tasks. program php , ror.
now... thinking need more portable. carry laptop me , backpack full, less heavy laptop awesome.
i'm thinking buying top of line 13" lappy, dual-core i7 , 8gb ram. upgrade ram 16gb , swap drive ssd , buy optidrive caddy 500gb drive... think? config able same tasks on current laptop?
not play @ pc. have desktop , play 2 games exclusively (starcraft ii , cod). gaming no-go on workstation, intel 4000 gpu nice me.
reduced screen size / resolution bother me lot ? know subjective, wanted know guy programs on 13" mbp.... there of here ?
i program on 13" '09 mbp. screen size isn't terrible (it's pretty decent), c2d has rough time handling vms - i'm in market new comp summer well.
think lot of depends on cost. know when considering getting upper-end 13", lot of revolved around fact ssds expensive, , 13" mbp $600 less (assuming student discount) mbpr begin with. add in fact they're same weight (mbpr lighter), , mbpr runs on qc cpu (especially running multiple vms) , you're @ same value each (apple forces pay $180 upgrade 16gb ram, don't rip off much). , larger screen size + pixels...
other that, comp see cost-effective base 13" mba w/ram upgrade, still have deal 8gb max of ram , ulv cpu (not quite best virtualization), quite issue.
