No discs will mount on Power PC

hi everybody,

parent's own third hand power pc g4, dual 1.25ghz version, 2gb ram running 10.4.11.

have in office whilst on holiday said see if running quicker them. have done usual bits of repairing disc permissions , using disc utility repair disk, have come against problem.

whenever turn on machine comes 2 errors of "disk not readable" can assume relate 2 disc drives has ... though there no discs in them.

have same error when plug in external hd.

thing won't mount .dmg files, saying there "no mountable file systems". default app open them set diskimagemounter.app

thinking should wipe os , re-install, want back-up data , applications first, of course can't load new software won't mount .dmg file.

have tried making new admin user, no disks mount under user either.

know why may happening , can fix mounting issue, or machine dead in sense?

in advance.

ok kinda s*** outa luck in sense missing driver , need re-install driver can't information. accept gone , wipe , fresh install

if had irreplacable data on there i'm sorry loss:(
