2012 i7 15in non-retina MBP freezing up

on monday, july 9th, 15in, 2012 non-retina mbp froze on 3 different times. had shut laptop off , on 3 times working again. use chrome (newest version gpu acceleration turned off) , parallels, attributed freezes 1 or both of programs. bought mbp moment became available in apple store. put intel 520 ssd macbook pro moment received it. laptop (with ssd) has run great until july 9th...

on thursday, july 12th, mbp froze again (i using chrome , parallels @ time.) shut off, , turned on...this time, machine did not boot. machine turned on, got black screen. turned off, turned on, , got grey apple screen, nothing more. hmm. turned off again, reset smc ,then reset pram 3 times in row, , machine still reaching grey apple screen. turned off again, left off few minutes, , turned on. machine got way desktop, froze after using few seconds. (i did not use chrome nor parallels.) turned off again, turned on, , described in paragraph happened again...

few hours later, got bright idea try external hd backup drive. backup drive duplicate (used carbon copy) of ssd in laptop. booted backup drive. got me way desktop, same problem before (i did not use chrome nor parallels.), laptop froze after few seconds of use.

decided give original hd came laptop try. said earlier, put ssd mbp moment got it, hd came laptop practically un-altered. no chrome, parallels, or other third-party apps on original hd. removed ssd , put original hd laptop. reset smc , pram again. turned on laptop , took me way desktop, froze again after few seconds of use (i did not use chrome nor parallels. 2 programs arent on original hd.)

turned off, , on. time while booting up, infamous kernel panic message (have never received message before during these troubles.) turned computer off, turned on (keep in mind original, practically un-altered hd still in laptop) , booted way desktop. lo , behold, computer kept running! used while, , didnt freeze. decided put ssd in laptop, , computer seems running correctly ssd in it! no freezes far. have been using chrome (newest version, gpu acceleration turned off.) havent tried parallels yet. have following questions...

- happened?
- why did happen?
- should take laptop apple store fixed/replaced?
- kernel panic have fixed kind of internal setting/rom in laptop? remember, laptop working correctly original hd kernel panic took place, , working correctly ssd (it not working correctly either.)
- parallels have made kind of permanent change internal setting/rom in mbp, , replacing ssd hd did not contain parallels failed fix problem?
 

definitely bring apple , let them know, if bring in, put stock hdd in don't ask questions (even though doesn't void warranty, aware of).

RAID in Early 2009 Mac Pro

being "tech guy" of house, brother has requested upgrade 4,1 mac pro. has: 2 x 2.26 quad-core xenons 12 gb ram 3 x geforce gt 120 4 x 2 tb hdd's in software raid 10 80 gb ssd in 1 of optical bays boot disk. uses computer video editing, in final cut pro x, he'll dabble in adobe suite. said wants more speed , needs less storage; i.e., doesn't need main drive more 2 tb. budget not issue here, future-proofing is: don't want have upgrade long time. ram upgrade simple enough, right? head on owc , grab 24 or 32 gb of whatever goes 4,1 generation mac pro. video cards know next nothing about. don't quite understand why he's got 3 of them for; monitor 30 in. cinema display. should upgrade video card(s)? maybe raedon 5770 or 5870? feel video editing isn't gpu-intensive, if is, please tell me so. now, fun part storage. figure best solution 4 new ssd's replace 12 tb ones, , stick ssds in raid 0. question is: n...
